Fiji with kids: a local’s guide
Fiji is one of the easiest family destinations in the Pacific: short flights from Australia and New Zealand, warm shallow lagoons, resorts with kids clubs and staff who genuinely love children. Here is how to plan it.
Where to stay
| Area | Why families like it | Resorts to look at |
|---|---|---|
| Coral Coast | Big resorts on the mainland, so no boat transfers. Kids clubs and lagoon swimming. | Shangri-La Yanuca Island, Outrigger Fiji |
| Denarau Island | 20–25 minutes from the airport, lots of restaurants, and the island boats leave from Port Denarau. | Hilton Fiji Beach Resort and the other Denarau resorts |
| Mamanuca Islands | The classic island holiday with white sand and calm water, a short boat ride from Denarau. | Plantation Island, Malolo Island Resort, Castaway Island |
Children’s ages, meal plans and room sizes vary by resort. Tell us your children’s ages and we will suggest rooms that fit.
Easy day trips with children
- South Sea Island: a tiny island with snorkelling, kayaks and lunch, about 6 hours.
- Sleeping Giant gardens and mud pools: a half day that kids love, from FJ$225.
- Coral Coast day trip: waterfalls and villages, from FJ$105.
- Dolphin watching: an early start, with lunch on board.
Getting around
Our airport transfers are private, so you are not waiting for other passengers after a long flight. Child seats are available for FJ$13.20 each; just tell us your children’s ages when you book. For island resorts, the bigger catamarans are the most comfortable option for young children.
Practical tips
- Pack reef shoes, rash vests and plenty of reef-safe sunscreen.
- Plan a quiet first day after arrival.
- Book family rooms early for school holidays.
- Travel insurance is a must, especially in the wet season.
